Equipment Recommendations
The following are just some basic guidelines as to what to bring on your trip to make it pleasant and enjoyable.
Clothing
We’ve had some brilliant summers in recent years here in Iceland.
However weather can change very quickly around here, and there’s always a chance, that we might encounter cold, rainy days, too.
So make sure to bring good quality waterproofs, hiking boots, jackets and overtrousers along with warm, mid-layer fleece, thermal underwear and warm socks. Also a warm hat or balaclava are highly recommended; spare pairs of socks in particular.
Camera Equipment
We assume that you are familiar with the basic functions of your camera and lenses, and that you will already know, what you want to bring. Just keep in mind, that some of our trips involve longer walks and that you’ll need to carry not just camera equipment, but also food and clothing, so don’t go overboard.
Tripod
A sturdy tripod is essential. A carbon-fiber tripod with a ball head and quick-release plate is a good choice in terms of weight and flexibility.
Camera Bag
While a camera rucksack might seem the obvious choice here, none of the models we’ve evaluated offer enough spare room to store additional items such as food and clothing.
Therefore our recommendation is to get a proper, medium-sized rucksack and a separate, well-padded camera bag with rain cover. In the worst case, you should be able to fit the camera bag inside the rucksack.
Batteries and Chargers
Spare batteries for camera and/or laptop are a must as we might not always be able to recharge daily; if in doubt bring more.
In Iceland two-prong European electrical outlets are standard, so make sure to bring UK-to-European adaptors.
Laptop
While not essential, a laptop is always handy to check your images as you go along. Laptops will usually be sent ahead with the bulk of our luggage to the next destination, so make sure it’s well protected in a padded case.
