Iceland – Puffin Adventures and Arctic Landscapes 2026

In mid June 2026 we spent two weeks exploring Iceland’s far northeast and further north into the Arctic Circle. Quiet and remarkably lacking in tourists, we deliberately kept our group small allowing us to visit some remote locations that have very limited accommodation for groups with a final location for 5 nights based on the tiny Island of Grímsey, home to millions of birds including vast numbers of Puffins. The islanders live in a small village by the harbour, a vibrant community with many children.
The chorus of seabirds, never stops during the 24 hour long day, there is no night in Grímsey during the summer, it is not until late July when twilight begins to descend around midnight. The midnight sun is exceptional for bird photography. The birds nest in the high cliffs that surround the whole island, except by the harbour. This gallery is a collection of images from us all, thank you Caroline, Dot, Alison and Martin. July 2027 will see us also including three nights to photograph the fabulous birdlife around Lake Mývatn and an extra night in Dalvík to enjoy more time on Hrísey Island and the estuaries surrounding Dalvík.
