Introduction

Leaving from Mallaig our voyage focuses primarily on getting us to the very best of Scotland’s inner Hebrides. Following the winds, our journey will allow us anchor in tranquil and scenic spots with memorable scenery. In addition to the superb landscapes, this coastal region is renowned for its diversity of wildlife and we will have every chance of seeing whales, basking sharks and dolphins, seals and otters. The breeding birdlife at this time of year is prolific and we will visit to a Puffin nesting area to photograph these delightful and comical little birds. Set against the backdrop of the Scottish Hebrides fascinating history and culture, this maritime photographic adventure makes for a truly unique and memorable sailing holiday.

Dates and Prices

Our Boat Selkie

Selkie is designed for the extremes of Antarctic seas, wild African coasts and the Pacific. Selkie combines strength, stability, comfort and speed. Our experienced skipper is Celia Bull who is based in Eigg where she runs Selkie Explorers. With her previous boat Ada, Celia skippered expeditions and charters in Patagonia, South Georgia and led an all female expedition to Antarctica. All guests love the light and airy communal area where we meet to eat, review our images and enjoy a bottle of wine or two! During this sailing you are welcome you to take the helm, help hoist the sails or just sit back and and enjoy delicious local food plus Celia’s fabulous hospitality.

It is impossible to fix an itinerary on an expedition such as this, however the areas we have visited in the past include:

Eilean Shona – a tidal island in Loch Moidart translating as the beautiful island

Eigg – a charming island renowned for its self sufficiency and home to our skipper Celia

Muck – the smallest and most fertile of the Small Isles

Rum – a wild island boasting one of the most photogenic castles in Scotland

Mull and Tobermory – brightly painted buildings and stunning forests surround the harbour

Canna – thousands of years of human history share a Hebridean island with twenty thousand breeding seabirds

Skye – Loch Scavaig offers one of the most dramatic anchorages in the world, with the Black Cuillin mountains rising directly from the shoreline

Knoydart – often referred to as Scotland’s last wilderness, this remote peninsula is home to the most out there pub in Scotland

This photo/sail is a very special way for a adventurous souls to share a unique experience with like minded photographers. Celia is very familiar with the needs of photographers and will help our guests make the very best of the multitude of different photographic opportunities during this sail. She will not give tuition in photography.

This is a sailing adventure and not a cruise. Therefore, you should familiarise yourself with what to expect from life on board. Selkie is a wonderful yacht but you do need to be relatively fit and agile to get the most from life on board during this sailing trip. While there is a shower on board, you will need to be conservative with water consumption as there are limited places where the yacht can re-supply. Guests should feel comfortable about living in a confined space with others during this sailing expedition.
